I realized that there are many people following this blog who never received a copy of this letter so I figured I would put it up. Enjoy!
Dear Family and Friends,
Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and
Malawi… what do all these countries have in common? Well, in October of 2011 I will embark on
an adventure unlike any other. These (along with one other unknown Asian country) will be the 11
countries I will visit in my “World Race”.
The World Race is a program through Adventures in Missions (AIM). 11 months to impact 11
countries. My journey will actually begin in July, when I will head to Chattanooga Tennessee for a ten
day training camp. There I will have the opportunity to meet and get to know the other members of my
team. Then come October we will head out together and travel around the world, entering into a year
that I expect will change my life.
Not only will we be experiencing new cultures, but each country will bring ministry opportunities.
We will be working in orphanages, hospitals, and with the homeless. We will be teaching English as
a second language, doing Vacation Bible School, doing construction and even working with human
trafficking victims. All the while we will have the opportunity to speak the Gospel and pray for the
people we meet. (jealous yet?)
As you can imagine, a trip like this will cost … $14,300 to be exact. Yes, that is a bit daunting. But
I have faith that God will provide what is needed. Be it through me working my tail off these next
4 months up until I leave, or through the blessing of support from you. It is possible to give in two
different ways: through a onetime gift or through monthly gifts. If you would like to partner with me
in this journey, I have included in this letter a support card and pre-addressed envelope. Please make
checks payable to Adventures in Missions, PO Box 534470, Atlanta, Georgia, 30353. Using the support
card provides AIM with the necessary information to send you a receipt for your donation. Or you can
donate by visiting my blog, rachelanderson.theworldrace.org, click the “support me” link in the upper
left side of the page and follow the instructions.
Speaking of my blog, this is also a place that you can visit to check in on me and see what I and my
team are doing while we are gone! I will be updating this blog several times a week with stories, news
and prayer requests. Also, if you would like to get together before I leave to hear firsthand about
the trip, please let me know! Call or text anytime, my number is 971-285-0917. Or e-mail me at
[email protected].
Finally I need to ask one more favor. This trip will not be possible without being backed by prayer. So
will you please keep me and my team in your prayers? I fully expect to be stretched and challenged in
so many ways while on this trip … physically, mentally, spiritually and even in ways that I don’t expect.
I am very excited, but I would be lying to say that I wasn’t also nervous and maybe even a little scared.
So let’s start there with the prayer requests. Pray that I will have strength and wisdom. That I won’t get
discouraged in my preparation, and that I will be drawing into God for comfort and hope.
I want to thank you in advance for your prayers and support; it is what makes all of this possible!
With Love,
Rachel
