Hospitality is the best word to describe Dominica. Since we arrived at Casa San Pablo we have been treated like kings and queens. It was a little unnerving to have so much rest the first couple of days here. I was expecting to show up at night, have to pitch a tent in the dark, be muddy and dirty, and barely eating…Wow were my expectations wrong…Expectaciones no bueno. Instead we have showers, toilets, running water, and comfy beds to sleep in, plus the food is great. Ramon is our host, he takes care of the upkeep of this catholica libreria.
I’m rooming with TiHa and Clara. I love my sisters. They are amazing. I leave almost every conversation challenged to be more of the woman God made me to be. To be kinder, gentler, patient, more girly, okay with crying.. the list could continue on and on. Tomorrow our finance teams get here, and I can’t wait to see them! Kaitlin and Kaity Grace will be here, and oh so many more amazing V-squad members. It’s finally here.. it’s really happening. I’m so ready for intense, real, broken, encouraging, Christian community; the way it’s supposed to be. It’s definitely going to be difficult with people we haven’t known our whole lives, but easier too, having no past, but only who you are today. Pray we can get to know each other’s stories, that we will be vulnerable with one another, compassionate, and patient.
I want my heart to break for what God’s breaks for, to be overwhelmed with weeping when we encounter pain, and injustice. I want to have the gift of intercessory prayer, and really cover my team, squad, and the communities we are in in prayer; blessings are ready to rain down on all of us if we just ask. Blessings don’t always look like we think they will, but as do most realizations in my life, later I see the goodness.
We have only been here a few days and I am impatient to start working with our ministry contact, to make a difference, and all I can do here is rest. I’m being told to rest. Lord teach me how.
