Whenever writing an "About Me" section, I always struggle to come up with something that doesn't sound like an eHarmony bio – not that I have ever been on eHarmony, but I can imagine what those bios are like: "I enjoy long walks on the beach and sipping pinot grigio in wine glasses with unusually tall stems."

My friend Rhett once said in a sermon that the social media scene would look a lot different if people were completely honest in their "About Me" instead of shining their personalities to a glossy sheen before presenting them to the internet. I happen to agree, but I'm not sure if it would be for the better. We don't want people to recognize us by our flaws; they do make us human, and add to our uniqueness, but I don't want someone to hear my name and think, "Oh, yeah, that's the guy that's really pretentious about grammar and babbles unintelligibly while nervous." So I guess, in finally getting to this bio about me, I must live in the tension of not wanting to be known as the Punctuation Police (something of which I may be guilty) and not presenting an unrealistic, pomped-up facsimile of the real me.

My name is Peter. I love Jesus. I like cats better than dogs. I dream of playing professional baseball; I aspire to be a writer. I know that James Taylor is my favorite musician because when I think about fact that he will one day die, I get emotional. I am fascinated with trying to find the sacred among the secular. I love to read and write, and some of my favorite words are "ostensibly" and "particularly;" I probably use too many adverbs when I write. I babble when I get nervous, and I find it next to impossible to talk without the use of my hands (and often feet). I am easily amused and laugh frequently. I quote stand-up comedians with conspicuous regularity because I don't really have that many good jokes of my own.

Hopefully this informs you somewhat about who I am. I know that I am probably supposed to put things about where I am from and where I went to college and what my favorite kind of pizza is, but that is commonplace and just tells you facts about me; it doesn't paint you a picture of who I am.

By the way, I was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN. I currently live in Huntington, IN. I went to Huntington University where I studied Bible and Religion and Biblical Languages. And my favorite pizza is tomato and ground beef.
