It’s been one year
since I went to classes, had exams, and walked across a stage to receive my
diploma after four years of university and many years of school in general.

My first year out of
university could be divided in two.

The first 6 months
after graduation…

I
was working. Doing stream restoration and monitoring.

I
was content.

I
was living at home.

The next 6 months…

I
have travelled to 6 different countries.

Living
day by day with strangers who have now become like brothers and sisters.

If you had asked me
what I would be doing a year after graduation,

I
could have never told you I would be living in the jungle of Malaysia.

I
could have never told you I would be travelling to 11 different countries as a
missionary.

I
could have never told you I would still be doing something environmental around
the world.

It’s funny. Because
I think God knows our hearts, our desires, and our passions.

God gave me a
passion for the environment.

And this month, I
get to embrace it by living on a palm oil estate. Surrounded by a palm oil
plantation, I’m learning about palm oil management. I’m pouring fertilizers on
the trees. I’m moving dead palm branches. I’m having environmental
conversations with my host. I’m in my element.
