Hello everyone! I made it to Guatemala and the location I’m going to be staying at for the next three months! We are staying in Santo Domingo Xenacoj. It’s a very small town. I’m staying in a small house with three rooms. All 5 of my teammates and I are staying in one room with three bunk beds. The people here are very kind but very little of them can speak English. By little I mean there is like 2 people in the whole town… Since we are going to be here for three months, we will be intensely studying Spanish for six hours a day for a week and then two hours a day after that. One of our primary ministries will be helping out widows. These are a very poor people. To put it in perspective, imagine a widow with four children. Our dollars is equal to 7.5 of their dollars. In most jobs, they only make .50 cents, of their dollar, an hour. They usually work for about 10 hours a day. So after working for 10 hours a day for 7 days, they make a little bit less than $5.00 U.S. dollars. That’s about how much a typical Starbucks drink is… Keep in mind they have to raise four children. That’s means feed them, clothe them, and create a home for them. And a lot of them will get a nother job at night as well. So far my heart has broken for these people and I haven’t even met the widows or orphans we will be ministering to. I absolutely cannot wait to see what the Lord is going to do here. I won’t be able to blog or connect to Internet till probably next week when we come back to Antigua (the closest city). It is 40 minutes away from Xenacoj. It took three buses to get to this city and let me tell you, there is no such thing as personal space on the buses here! Thank you so much for all your support, comments on my blog and Facebook and your prayers! God Bless and buenos noches!
