I think it’s safe to say that I wasn’t to excited about going to Vietnam at the beginning of the month. Out of the 11 countries on our route, Vietnam was the country I was least excited about go to. My last few days in Cambodia I prayed about going, telling God how I felt and asked Him to change my heart. I wanted to go into the month with everything I had to give. I wanted to be completely surrendered to Gods will while I was there.

When we found out that our ministry was teaching English yet again for the third month, it was a bit frustrating. Our month in Da Nang consisted of working at English Corner having conversations with the students there. We also had the opportunity to visit two orphanage- getting a chance to play and help with the kids there.

In English Corner there were four students that I especially connected with Nam, Nhat, Trung, and Peter. Each one had a completely different personality than the other. Nam is 23 and is going to school to be and architect. He’s very talented and still extremely humble about it. Nhat is 22 and everything he says is so serious. Trung reminds me a lot of my friend back home, and I don’t even know where to begin with Peter. He’s 19 and there’s not a minute I’m not laughing when I’m around him. He’s always joking around and making people laugh. Getting to know each one of them this month was an amazing blessing.

One of the best nights in Vietnam would be a few days before we had to leave. We took the guys to the beach that night and got to talk to them about their life and what it’s like growing up in Vietnam. We also got to tell them about what God has done in our lives and why we’re there.I can’t say that night they all gave their life to God and got saved, but they did hear about how great He is. There’s no doubt in my mind that God brought me to Vietnam to meet them, and what I thought was going to be the least exciting month on my race turned out to be the best month so far. God taught me a lot while I was in Vietnam, and saying goodbye to everybody was difficult. Some of the conversations I had with the students and times I spent with them will never be forgotten. Now Vietnam holds some great memories and some ever better friends!
