Today during team devotions Megan challenged us to write a blog about Christmas. So here it is…

I thought of Mary… then Joseph. I thought about the beginning events of the Christmas story. I thought about Mary and Joseph’s reaction to God’s message given to them by His angels. I see two courageous people. I see two examples of trusting and obeying the Lord when He speaks to you. I see Mary who at first had fear and reservations about how it would be possible. (Luke 1:29,34). I see her trusting the plan and praising Him for it (Luke 1:38,46-55). Then Joseph… what a humble man. Even before the angel of the Lord appeared to him and after hearing about Mary, he had the honor to call off their engagement quietly. Especially since society at that time would have approved of a more punishable ending. (Matthew 1:19). But the Lord sent His angel and told him not to fear but to trust His plan and Joseph did so honorably (Matthew 1:20-25). I see two examples of being faithfully fearless. Two examples of trusting and obeying the plan the Lord gave them for their lives even though there would be ridicule, gossip, and tension from those around them.

As I sit in a cafe in Thailand, 3 days until my first Christmas away from my family and 8 months until I return to the States, I encourage myself in their courage. This isn’t comfortable and familiar but it’s the plan the Lord gave me for my life and in that I find joy especially during this season.

With love,

Paola
