Our first offical race is over and, it must be noted, that team Pi declared victory. We joined forces with team g.racers and became the ‘pacers’ , and in the end, team Pi lived up to our hype. I think it has a lot to do with our race day post. It really put our team in the right mindset and helped us pull through during the hard times. We were woken up at 4:30 am and took a taxi bus all the way to the Guatemalan border. Once we walked across we hopped into another bus and had a nice 6 hour drive to Antigua. Then, due to some helpful tourists, we made it to our final stop at the ‘Higher Grounds Cafe’ owned by YWAM (Youth With A Mission). I am happy to report that the entire day went pretty smoothly and team attitudes stayed high. I dont think I could have asked for a better situation.
We have been in Antigua for 2 days now and are staying at a YWAM base right outside of the city. It is absolutely beautiful here. Anitgua is located at the base of a volcano and the weather is perfect. It is so nice to not be sweating every minute of the day like we were in Palenque. The entire squad is here together for a four day debrief. It has been wonderful to come back together and hear about everyones experiences over the past month. I still am in shock that our first month of ministry is over.
I have to say my favorite moment thus far in Guatemala was this morning. We were sent out to have personal quiet time and reflect on our past month. I walked down the street to a park infront of a church and sat against a fountain. It was an incredible moment of contentment. I just sat, journaled, and read my Bible and couldnt imagine being anywhere else in the world. For those who know me, they probably know that I am insanely close to my family. I love them so much and they are my biggest support system, and it was hard to leave that. I was very nervous about missing home and not being fully present in what God has been putting me in. But I am happy to report that is not the case. Obviously I am going to miss my family, but the Lord has placed this amazing feeling of peace and contentment inside of me and I know it comes straight from my obedience to Him.
We have a few more days in Antigua which I am very excited about. Then we leave sunday at 3am for what I hear will be a 39 hour bus ride to Nicaragua. I am still praying that that is a joke, but if not it will hopefully make for an entertaining future blog.
