On Sunday night we spent the evening at our church watching about 25 kids while there was a service going on with a guest speaker from Guatemala. It was an exhausting, but fun, three hours. The kids ranged in ages and we defintely had it all. There were the criers, the ones who wanted you to throw them in the air the whole time, and the ones who wanted to attack you to the ground and pummel you with grass. By the end of the night we were tired, defintely dirty, and ready to go home for a nice shower and bed. It was almost 11:00 so we hopped in a cab to get back to the bible school we were staying at. The school itself is up a long and uneven road that most cabs try to overcharge us for. But having the minimalist spirit that our team has adapted since being here, we decided to have the cab driver drop us off at the bottom of the road so we wouldnt get overcharged.
Once he drove off we realized no one had brought a headlamp, leaving us to brave the road in the dark. We thought our only concern would be potential tarantulas or other creepy crawlers, but we were so wrong. We had barely made it a 1/3 of the way when we heard barking. This was not just a little yelp, but a ferocious Ì will bite you if you dare approach me´ bark. As we looked up the road we spotted the neighbors rottweiler staring us down. During the day when it is light and the owner is usually outside, the dog is fine. But at 11pm with no lights and no owner to hold back kujo, we knew we were in trouble. In the most decisive moment in our teams history, we bolted back to the main road. We briefly contemplated taking an alternate route through the knee high grass, and quickly shot that one down knowing we would probably find something worse then a rottweiler crawling around in there. So now we had to stand on the side of the road to flag down another taxi that would drive us up our street. Feeling ridiculous, but knowing we had no other choice, we waited. After about 15 minutes we finally found a cab that would drive us, and of course he overcharged us like crazy; but at that point we would have paid anything. So, in our attempt to save money, we ended up paying almost twice as much as we should have. Woops! I guess its was just another day in the life of team Pi.
