Before coming on this race, I knew that I would learn a lot about myself, others, and about my relationship with God. I figured we would do a lot of manual labor, community outreach type stuff, relational work, and kids ministries… but I never dreamed that I’d be asked to write out a profile for my future husband.

When we first arrived in this little Romanian town, our contact Raul brought us to the church for an orientation of his ministry and what we could expect to be doing this month. After going through the typical relational type ministry activities, he explained that we would have a homework assignment every night- basically he would ask us a question and we would need to have an answer prepared for our morning session.

This seemed like it could be a fun twist to our month 6 adventure.

But then he said something that completely caught us off guard. Our first homework assignment was to write a profile for our future husband… the characteristics we want in a husband.

I’ve heard of girls doing this. I’ve seen this played out in movies- the girl writes down everything she wants in a husband and sure enough… prince charming shows up right at her door. But I’ve never really bought into it.

So naturally I started laughing, because I thought he was joking. But that wasn’t the case. He was being completely serious. I guess he had a point behind it all, but I didn’t see that at first. I just thought he was nuts.

I realized later that he was only encouraging us to be praying for our future husbands. But in order to pray, we have to know what we’re praying for. And why not be specific with God? It’s written that He already knows our hearts inner most desires.

So long story short- this has become quite the theme of our time here in Romania. It seems like everyone we meet wants to introduce us to their grandson, or son’s son, or whatever son. Our team has been spread out over different ministries throughout the day- so it’s always fun to hear everyone’s crazy stories at the end of the day around the dinner table (since we actually have one this month!!)

And on a more serious note- once again, prayer seems to be the theme of this month. We spend the first part of every day praying for the missionaries here, continued unity and health within our team, and our friends and families back home.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned over the past 6 months on this race- is that prayer REALLY DOES WORK. I’ve seen people healed right before my eyes and relationships restored. I’ve seen God’s blessings and favor being poured out left and right.

And who knows where my future husband is right now… but I’m sure he could use some prayers in the meantime, don’t you think?! 🙂
