Meet Fani and Asimoyla two of the sweetest, most hospitable women I have ever met.
At the beginning of last week Lucie, Jenna, Coco, and I were walking down the street when Lucie noticed Asimoyla sitting in this chair in front of a bakery. Asimoyla’s lower legs and feet were swollen, red and cracked. There was no definition in her legs; they looked as if they may pop.
We stopped to pray for her. After a few conversations of limited english and others attempting to translate we prayed for Ms. Asimoyla. When we opened our eyes and looked up, she was crying. She explained to the translator that for two years she has prayed that someone would stop to pray for her legs.
I know I shouldn’t be surprised by God, but I continue to be in awe of the way God works and the things he invites us into if we simply choose to say yes.
We hung out with Fani and Asimoyla for a bit longer. We sat on the sidewalk in front of the bakery and just attempted to visit and hang out. They are seriously some of the sweetest women. They treated us to homemade granola bars and juice even though we refused a hundred times.
The next three mornings until we left Greece, we went back and prayed over her legs and spent time with them. Day after day we saw improvement in her legs. We began to see definition in her ankles, a sign the swelling has gone down.
Every day no matter how many more friends from our squad we brought to pray, they forced fed us with delicious treats as if they were our grandmothers and smiled and chatted.
I fell in love with sweet Ms. Fani. She has been working at the bread store for 39 years. She showed me pictures of her son and grand baby. She excitedly shared with us some of the traditional Greek favorites.
One day I stood in her shop and prayed with her. After, she told me the night before she could feel something different in her heart. She said she knows everyone has it but not everyone gets to experience it. But she felt God’s presence. It warmed my heart to know God is with her. To know that when we come together we can so richly bless one another with Christ’s love.
It was seriously such a blessing to get to know these two women. I fully believe that God will continue doing a work in Fani’s heart that will impact and shine so much love to the people around her. And I fully believe day after day Asimoyla will experience more healing. I also fully believe that it will be a sign and testament of God’s love and faith in her life and to the people she sees daily who walk down the street.
Say some prayers for the work God is doing in the sweet women who loved and treated us like family!
