As the end of each month of ministry comes to an end, my heart begins to be pulled in two different directions.
You see, we all look forward to finding out what our new ministry will be,
but as I look at all the friendships we have built and all the sweet times we have had,
the thought of saying goodbyes is bittersweet.
Last night painted that picture perfectly.
After preparing a romantic evening for our contacts as a ‘thank you’ for the blessing they have been, our team along with a handful of our new friends, headed back to our home, ‘The Beam House’, for a Gumbo dinner and a night of fellowship.
As a rain storm rolled in, all 10 of us gathered around the dinning room table family style.
Jamos (our team leader) exclaimed with excitement that he was going to announce what our ministry in Mozambique was going to be.
Hoots and hollers of excitement explode around the room as arms go up in the air and anxious gasps of,
‘finally’ and ‘Oh gosh, here it comes’, fill my ears.
As Jamos begins to read off the description of ministry he received,
I look around the table at all the faces I have grown to love.
I feel so excited for what is to come, but realizing that in reality I may never see these people every again brings me back to earth. This month has been absolutely phenomenal. Its been challenging as physical labor is not exactly my strong suit, but the spiritual rest and renewal I have had this month was so refreshing.
In short we have some of the sweetest contacts here,
and have had the pleasure of becoming friends with their son along with 2 other fellow missionaries.
As the rain clatters on the tin roof our front,
I sit back in my chair and try to soak in that lovely moment. I will always cherish our time here in Pretoria, South Africa…..
Yet once again, we prepare to travel from one country to the next.
The scene at the end of every month is very similar. Last minute laundry loads, belongings thrown everywhere as we attempt to organize, the debate between what to bring and what to leave, money exchanges, final blog posts, snack packing, sometimes tearful goodbyes and the final rush of arranging travel plans and making it to the bus station on time.
This Wednesday we will be gearing up for about 18 hours of travel as we head to Mozambique.
Our team will be working with ‘Africa on Fire’ but we don’t know quite what we will be doing.
I don’t know if we will have internet but chances are we won’t. I will try to update you as much as I am able. Please keep me and my team in your prayers.
For UNITY,
for BOLDNESS,
for effectiveness in our NEW MINISTRY,
and for FREEDOM and BROKEN CHAINS amongst everyone we come in contact with.
