A big part of our time in Peru has been building relationships with the ‘Jovenes’…..
which is the young adult group here.

Although not a scheduled ministry, we have spent most of our time investing time into this group.
Whether that means late night soccer games, game nights at the church
or going out for a quick dinner together,
we have have taken every opportunity to connect with these people and speak life over them.
I think sometimes people over complicate what ministry really is.
There is of course a place for more structured ministry such as VBS, building homes or painting churches,
but void of relationships, I find it hard to see purpose in these things.
Most of Jesus’ days consisted of ‘doing life’ with people
and sharing in their burdens, their laughs, and their tears.
If He walked this way, then should we not as well?
Let me tell you….I am not a night person. Ask anyone and they can tell you.
I would very much prefer to be in bed by 10 or 11 every night; However the Jovenes here have a love for soccer.
And they happen to always play at night when everyone is free.
So it goes without saying that many of our nights are spent out side in the cold playing with them
(or more specifically cheering ).
I could stay at the church and get some much needed shut eye, why not?!
But I figure, If by staying out late and being a little uncomfortable
I can by chance show these people that they are important to me, and important to Christ,
then I would do it every night.
If by sitting on the sidelines and playing games with Franky’s son,
I can bring a smile to his little face, then bring it on.
I know God see’s the value in these things
and so I am honored to be able to serve my Lord in such a way.
To God be the Glory in it all.
“For this I toil, struggling with all HIS energy that HE powerfully works within me.”
