Here I am. Month 11. In Transnistria. A place of mystery. A "country" within a country. A country that’s not even recognized by the UN as a country, yet it has it’s own currency, military, government, border control. A place that’s basically off the map.
The following are some highlights of the month so far:
-Our taxis got lost for an hour driving through this small “country” to find our ministry contact.
-We’re staying at an orphanage. The kids are not here, but are staying with church families through the summer.
-There is one other team from our squad that is working with our team this month… so fun!
-We went to a Christian, Ukrainian-American concert at the church our first night here.
-We’re working in what we call “the brickyard.” We dig through piles of rubble to find usable bricks for a future building project for the church. Once we find the bricks we proceed to chisel of the concrete stuck to them. Tedious work, but it does help the church save money… and teaches us what it means to serve with humility.
-Miscommunication. i.e. We were told we would be picked up for church around 1 pm; however, vans were at our house waiting for us to be ready at 11 am.
-We get to cook for ourselves, which is a lot of fun. Plus, we get a break from all of the sausages and hotdog type meats we ate last month. Hooray for fruits and veggies!
-We get to work with the youth at the church every Saturday.
-God is always at work even when we can’t see it, because He is far greater than our hearts (1 John 3:20). Who knows how God will use our words or our actions for His glory and for His kingdom?!
-19 days left on the World Race! Surreal.
