I’m sitting in Kigali, Rwanda at a coffee shop where many mzungus (white people) gather. It almost feels like home… almost. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that I’m actually here, on the World Race… and three months into it at that! It has been an adventure for sure so far. I’ve been learning so much about the culture of Africa and have been stretched outside my comfort zone many times. I continue to see God’s faithfulness in all of it, and I know I am here only because of Him. It’s the end of the month and our squad leaves for Thailand next week. Here are some words to describe our time in Africa.
Words to describe Africa:
Carbo-load—the past three months we’ve eaten lots of rice, pasta, chapatti, white bread, ugali, sweet potatoes, and potatoes of many varieties.
Simple—life is simple for Africans. Kids play with whatever is lying around. They don’t have the same busyness and distractions as we do.
African Time—1 o’clock means 2 o’clock… or whenever they feel like showing up.
Hardworking—cooking, cleaning, washing are not two-step processes.
Joyful—the people live hard lives, yet they are so full of joy. Their worship is a time of rejoicing, dancing, singing and praising our God.
I am so thankful for the past three months. The people I’ve met and the things I’ve seen will never be forgotten. Africa will always be cherished in my heart.
