Here I am in Atlanta, Georgia for launch. And I have all that I need in a backpack. It's packed to the max, but it still doesn't seem like much for 11 months.
I arrived a couple days early with my mom to meet up with my Aunt Karen and cousin Kristin who live on the east coast. We will be spending some quality time together before I have to report for Launch. I think it will be a nice transition into this journey.
I left my friends and family back in California. It was hardest saying good-bye to my dad. He dropped my mom and I off at the airport and he and I hugged multiple times and I began to cry. I am daddy’s little girl and I am going to miss him so much. However I know this is not forever and I will see him again!
Launch meetings begin tomorrow for us who are team leaders. We will meet up with the rest of our squad on Monday and have meetings covering last minute information to make sure we are ready to leave the country on January 9th.
This is all becoming real now. This is really happening. I am really going on this 11 month trip!
I received an email 2 days ago from one of our squad leaders giving us our ministry assignment for this month. We will be in Antigua Guatemala working at a youth center. Our host’ name is Luis and he is the director of this center. We will be working with youth ages 12-20, teaching them about biblical based values and characters. We will also be translating some of the curriculum into English. This all begins on January 15th. Feel free to check out the website of the ministry at
www.asociacionnuevageneracion.org
We will be staying in the youth center, which has beds and bathrooms! YAY!! The first month I don’t have to sleep in a tent and I get a bed! (This most likely will not happen each month.)
My team, Team Agape, will be working with another team from my squad during this month. We are teams of all women, and I believe this ministry is perfect for all of us! God knows exactly where to put us!
Please pray:
- This next week in preparation here in Atlanta goes smoothly
- Travel safety getting to Guatemala
- Our host Luis and his ministry
- For all the ladies on my squad I will be working with and all my other squad mates at different locations around Guatemala
- That we will represent Jesus the best way possible and teach these kids about a God who knows and loves them
Thanks to all my friends and family for your prayers and support. I truly appreciate it! And I feel so special and loved! Thank you!
Here we go!
