This month my team has partnered with Ministerio Mateo 5:16  by working with their New Life Youth Center.  Surrounded by several barrios (neighborhoods), the New Life Center is a beautiful campus where the children and youth of the community can come and literally feel the presence of God. As we prayer walked around it the first morning we were here, I couldn’t help but feel that this was like the ‘Garden of Eden’ for this area.

As part of our ministry here we open up the campus 4-5 times a week to basically just play with the kids and love on them. Some days we have one main activity, while on others we’re split up doing random things. The other day we were divided up where some were playing soccer, some were climbing all over Greg, some were chasing a beach ball, and then some were playing jump rope. As I stood there watching all the kids, I found myself praying that God would:

JUST LET THEM BE KIDS

As a foster mom and day care teacher, I have seen way too many kids robbed of their childhood and I absolutely can’t stand it when I see it now! Here in Jinotepe, it hasn’t been any different. As we’ve heard the stories and walked around the barrios, I’ve definitely seen the enemy at work. From living in the poorest barrios with barb wire and broken glass everywhere, having domestic violence as the number one crime here in this area, and fatherless homes more of the norm, the innocence of these kids is definitely at risk.

We’ve been told that most of these kids have never really experienced love…not only God’s love but just from their family. Because of this, I have absolutely loved serving these kids by allowing them to escape the hurt and pain and come to this safe haven…to just have fun playing, and in that, experience an encounter with God’s love.

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them,

for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.”
