Depravity…

Google search found a meaning for this word.

MORAL CORRUPTION OR DEGRADATION. Or depraved ACT OR CONDITION.

Sadly, this one word can describe a lot of history of countries. It can describe history of the Old Testament and new Testament. It can describe my history, your history, and countless inhumane acts. In every country Ifve been to on my race, there has been acts of genocide in some form. The city of Kigali is no stranger to that. 1994 was when genocide here actually stopped. I walk around the sidewalks of a city where thousands and thousands of people lost their lives. It all started because people were a certain tribe. Here in Rwanda there are tribes of people that held much of the countyfs culture and history. Sadly, that has faded out because the genocide wipe out those who knew the history. The Tutsi and the Hutu were at war with one another for years. The Tutsi tribe was almost completely wiped out by Hutu people simply because they were Tutsi. They had no defense because literally the whole country of Rwanda was at war against the Tutsi or anyone who affiliated with a Tutsi member. Itfs estimated that about 850, 000 people were murdered just because they were Tutsi. People didnft have to break the law or anything. They simply were Tutsi.

I visited a museum of this genocide the other day. I was so confused as to why this happened. It just didn’t make sense. It seemed like someone told the Hutu to not like Tutsi and kill them,so they did. I walked through looking at faces, weapons, and clothes and wondering how these people got here. The Lord reminded me of the book of Ezekiel. Ezekiel saw all the depravity of Israel. He was wrecked. He prayed for them. Something clicked in my head on this day as I walked through and read plates of those that lost their lives and their dignity. I realized we today aren’t too far from this. We still live in this depravity. Yes, we choose to not act on it but it’s still there. In some way every country has experienced mass killings of people for no reason other than because they are…

People have killed, tortured, and bullied people just because. That’s stupid. I remember getting picked on at school. I never did anything to people, I just was there. I just existed. They still picked on me. I didn’t look a certain way or dress the way they did. In Rwanda the Tutsi were Tutsi by birth and people brutally killed them just because. In the States black people were killed just because they were black. Hitler killed Jewish people just because they were jewish. People fought and killed in general just because people were a certain way. Today I praise the Lord we aren’t all the same. That we believe different things. That we dress different ways. That we look different. That we struggle with different things. Are these really reasons to kill?? Are these really reasons to not like someone? Are these really reasons to not speak good things to someone…encouraging things?

I know this blog may be scattered. I think my point is to inform and push you to pray. Pray for the land you stand on. Pray for those that have lost and pray for the future people to stand on it. Pray for Rwanda as it’s government moves forward to sustain peace among the people. (**Please note I am not in danger in this city, there is a lot peace with the people and tribes with more peace on the way**)
