In the horse world there are many types of training. One I’m a little familiar with is called parelli. It’s a way to train your horse naturally. You learning your horse and your horse learning you. Something it aims for is desensitizing. A way to get your horse use to surroundings so it is less likely to spook at things. A bit deeper than that though, it teaches your horse to trust you. So you start from the ground and move to the saddle….

For the past week or so I’ve gotten to brush elbows with prostitutes, transexuals, men looking for sex, and my teammates who company me in these streets. The other day I realized that I wasn’t so affected by my surroundings as I was when I first arrived.

I was becoming Desensitized.

I realized how I didn’t want to be desensitized. I don’t want things like this to become normal. I asked God for HIS eyes to see again. He showed me how much I judge the men that come here and how I judge the ladyboys and prostitutes. I thought about home…the States. This place is really no differant. In the states I’m desensitized to it…I think we all might be. Or maybe it’s so hidden we don’t see it. The reality is that prostitution happens in lots of places. You don’t have to go to another country to see it. True, it may be more clear or open here. My guess is that you wouldn’t have to go far to find it in the States. In the states we have more laws to fight it…I think as a whole ‘merica is not desensitized to the darkeness and fall of man. So they fight it.

Here it’s acceptable and pretty much expected…

God gave me a glimpse of life through the eyes of a prostitute the other day. I sat on the floor of the Tamar center, which is rock throwing distance from a bar, I watched the ladyboys get ready for work. I just listened.
Here’s what I heard:
“Life is pain
Life is sorrow
Life is no purpose
Life is no joy
Is this living?
Life is empty
Life is dark
All I’m living for is the next naked body
My smile covers up my deepest secretssss
This life I hate; This role I play is fake
Flash your money, I’ll flash my boobs
I don’t want your love, I want your body
One more night of bliss
OH THE BLISS!
I do want love; NOT some fake crap love…NO!
Real, deep, everlasting love
Take me to this light
The freedom at the end of this road
Love is what I want in life
Until then…Life is…
Life”

In all this I hope to encourage you. Not to seek out the darkest places on earth but to be reminded of the world around us. That God has you where you are for a purpose…TO BRING LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS. All kinds of people need the light and the love the light brings. YOU have a responsiblity with what you know and what you see. Ministry is just outside your window..step out the door and there it will be. I pray your heart to be broken for what breaks God’s heart. I believe he has skilled us in many ways to do many things…many GREAT THINGS. I pray that we continue to be aware of what God is doing and that we partner WITH Him.
