Last week was a much needed time of rest, relaxation, and celebration for me, and I hope it was for you too! It’s hard for me to believe that Thursday marks the beginning of 2015 and a new age for me- 23. 2015 is going to be such an eventful year for me. As you may or may not know yet, in September I’ll be leaving for 11 months on the World Race.
Maybe, like me at one point, you have no idea what the World Race is but you think it sounds pretty awesome. Or, maybe it sounds exhausting and a little scary. Well, I’m here to give you a better idea of what my life will look like come September and also how I’m going to be preparing until then.
The World Race is an 11 month mission trip that brings 21-35 year olds all over the world to work with different churches and organizations to serve the people in the communities we’ll be visiting. What’s unique about the particular route I’ll be on is that my team and I will be exclusively in Asia for all 11 months. Each month, with little more than a backpack on our backs, we’ll be traveling to a different country in Asia and working on a different missions project. The countries are China, Mongolia, Japan, Nepal, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Some days we’ll be praying over the sick in the hospital, building relationships with orphans, ministering to sex trafficking victims, working on a construction project, or even just grocery shopping and cooking for my team.
If you know anything about me, you probably know that Asia is a continent close to my heart, and having the opportunity to go there and build relationships with the people there is a huge blessing that I could never take lightly. My hope and prayer is to change lives through the message of the Gospel, and I’m also prepared to be changed myself. I fully expect it to be a tremendous time of growth for me… emotionally, intellectually and spiritually.
One of the main ways I have to prepare for September is by raising support to cover the costs of the trip. I need to raise $16,257, which covers medical insurance, food, lodging, air, land, and see travel, as well as administrative, setup, coaching, debrief, and training costs prior to and at the start of the Race.
If you are interested in supporting me on my journey, I would be incredibly thankful and in return will keep you up to date as far as what I’ll be up to the whole time I’m there. I’d also love to pray for you! There are two ways you can support me… the first is by praying for the safety of my team and I, as well as the people we’ll be meeting. Secondly, you can contribute financially to help me reach my goal of $16,257. Alternatively, if you’d like to donate but can’t, yet you know of someone else to refer me to who may be interested in supporting me, that would be very generous and helpful! If you look up at the green bar at the top of my blog you can keep up with where I’m in my fundraising process.
Here are the three ways you can donate to my account:
Check/Money Order – must be made payable to Adventures in Missions with my name in the memo line.
Mail to: Adventures in Missions, PO Box 742570, Atlanta, GA 30374-2570.
Please mail only one check per envelope, as checks are processed mechanically.
Credit Card/Bank Transfer – Click on the “Support Me” link on the left-hand side of this blog, and you will be directed through the process of making a one-time, monthly, or quarterly gift by credit card or bank transfer.
All donations made this way will be charged a transaction fee of 2-3%.
EFT (Dynapay) – Go to adventures.org/dynapay to fill out an online form for a monthly Electronic Funds Transfer from a checking account. No transaction fee will be charged for donations made through EFT.
If you have any questions at all and want to know more about the World Race, myself, or how to help me, just click on the Contact button on the let hand side of the screen. THANK YOU for reading this, and I hope that you’ll partner with me in this endeavor and keep up with my travels!
Finally, I have an exciting update! My good friend Paige is a super talented photographer/videographer and we shot a video over the weekend of me talking about the World Race and what led me to decide to go on such a wild adventure. Hopefully by the end of January/beginning of February when it’s all finished I’ll be able to share it with you all! Here’s a picture of Paige standing with our masterpiece…
