Monday the 11th, Team 180 and Team Hot Mess met with our amazing ministry partner, sweet Carol Kendall. She and her husband Forrest are part of a ministry called Servants 4 Him. The main two things they do are build water purification systems and wood burning stoves. Both of these practical applications help the Mayan’s health, and both are great visual parables to aid sharing the love of Christ to the surrounding Mayan villages!

On Monday, we took time to have a devotional together and share our stories and where we came from, which was really awesome. Carol trained us on how their water filtration systems work, and gave us a lot of history of the surrounding villages she works with.

She took time to show us how she teaches health education in the Guatemalan villages, to help them better understand sanitation problems and how to prevent some of the issues! If you notice the “river” in the picture above, it is completely full of all of their sewage and garbage, and it smells like it. Unless the people are educated, they don’t know any better than to drink, bath, cook, and everything else with this water.

She also has a lot of tools to relate water purification to the water of life! She has some amazing visual aids she uses with the children and the women, since most of them cannot read. She’s going to get us copies of anything we might be able to use along our entire race, which will be SUCH a great tool to have! Carol and Forrest are AMAZING! I’m excited to begin helping build the water purification systems later in the week.

However, Forrest has been out of town and isn’t returning until tomorrow.  SO…yesterday… we began to put our bodies to work with some physical labor for a friend of theirs:

Diggin’ Ditches.

Visiting Annajulia’s home, a friend of Carol and Forrest. They helped build the top floor of their home, and it’s amazing!

This really cute little man was so sweet!  I asked if I could take a photo of him, and he gave me a big grin and surfs up sign! It’s the beginning of harvest time, so we often see people hauling crops and goods.
