God take us back
The place we began.
The simple pursuit
Of nothing but You.
-Simple Pursuit by Passion
Do you remember that time in your life when you first fell in love? When you fell in love with Jesus? The moment when you could feel your heart growing and discovering new things. Discovering the amount of love your Creator has for his creation and knowing the reason and purpose you were created for. The moment you decide to give your life to the Savior of everything is something so powerful but yet something so easily forgotten and overlooked.
God is taking me back to the basics.
We love because he first loved us. -1 John 4:19
But even before I was born, God chose me. -Galatians 1:5
He is reminding me that before I was even born, he chose me and loved me.God is showing me that I have forgotten my first love. My first love who chose me for a particular purpose, created every detail of me, and LOVED me before I drew my first breath of life. Who loves me more than any human could even imagine.
The world we live in is so busy with things to do and to take our focus away. Examples I have struggled with are school or achievements, work and success, exercise or body image, relationships with family, friends, and boys. Also the pressures and stress to look and act a certain way that is “fitting” to society. I have left my first love of Christ to try to find love and satisfaction in all these places. I spent so much of my life worrying about accomplishing all these things when Jesus has been calling my name with arms open wide waiting for me to return to him.
But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first (You have left your first love) -Revelation 2:4
Jesus is bringing me back to the place where I am falling in love with Him with no agenda. Praying and spending time in the word to get to know who He was and is without giving him tasks to do for me is has become key. To sit at His feet and just rest in His presence is my place of freedom.
O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! Lifting up my hands to you in prayer. -Psalm 63
Rediscovering the “on-fire” feeling for Jesus is filling the pieces my heart has been searching for the past years. Jesus is calling us all to come back to our first love. Filling our hearts with His love will satisfy that longing so many are searching for in earthly things. Psalm 63 is a great prayer to start with in searching for God. The amount of love David had for the Lord is so passionate and something I am striving for. I can feel my heart opening up and being restored when I pray this to Jesus.
My prayer life has resulted from this change. I used to pray just to pray , to beg God to help me pass a test, or to bring me comfort. Now it is more of a relational conversation. A conversation between me and my lover. Bringing God into every situation in my life in prayer is literally putting His perspective on everything that is am dealing with. It is rocking my world to be exact. It is bringing me back to the basics of being head over heels for my Savior, my friend, my Lord, my Papa, my restorer, my redeemer, my freedom, my forgiver, my first love.
If you have never known this feeling or experienced giving your life to Jesus, today is the day you can. This moment can be your “falling in love” moment. Today He is calling us to go back to the basics to remember your first love. To love him and receive his unfailing love. It is the simple pursuit of Him. Fall in love with the one who has loved you long before you were woven together in your mother’s womb. Your first love.
“I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.” -Jeremiah 31:3
