The World Race is VERY much reality. Real people. Real lives. Real hearts. With a VERY Real need.
With the intent of settling any casting confusion, I figured writing a blog would totally help answer some questions 🙂
I would also like to squash any preconceived notions or hopes of seeing my face plastered on a television screen. Honestly, I would be lucky to even see a television in less than 8 months!
The World Race is a year long mission trip. It is a journey to 11 countries in 11 months to serve the least of these all the while experiencing different cultures, not having a home, and doing it with a community of others who wholeheartedly desire to see lives changed in the nations all over the world.
World Racers emphasize ministry to the poor, the oppressed, and the hopeless. Our team will serve in partnership with churches and ministries in local communities to preach the Gospel, plant churches, work in orphanages, minister to women and children trapped in prostitution as a result of human trafficking, and bring the restorative hope of the Father’s love to many tribes and nations.
The ‘Amazing Race’ is an American reality television game show in which teams race around the world for $1 million dollars. This is NOT what I will be doing, nor will I be winning any money on the mission field.
What in the bananas would I even do with $1 million dollars!?! I think, honestly, I got a better shot at catching malaria; or perhaps being eaten by a lion!
Haha, Trust me, I don’t believe Hollywood will miss me much!
In the meantime, my focus is on preparing my heart for whatever cost may or may not occur. The safest place I can be is exactly where God wants me to be, which is why I have chosen to pursue missions with a Luke 10 type faith.
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore to send out workers into His harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.” (Luke 10:2-3)
‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’, and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ (Luke 10:27)
I’m completely being called out of my comfort zone in order to be exposed to what God is doing in the world. Loving others and reconciling them to Him. It isn’t even about me, it’s about the Kingdom.
As a World Racer, I will be sent out with a team of radicals whose heartbeat is to see a changed world –
To be a part of the revolution.
Rev–o–lu–tion:
[rev-uh-loo-shun] – noun
A sudden, complete or marked changed.
Luke 9:23-25 says, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world and yet lose or forfeit their very self?”
So I desire to pick up my cross and FOLLOW Jesus. Just to ‘GO.’ Despite me, despite anything else or anyone else. Just to follow, because He is leading.
To set mission in motion. To go to the darkest and most hopeless places first, willingly, and rise to the challenge of seeing the world transformed through tangible expressions of God’s love.
In September, I broke down in my bathroom after hearing ‘GO.’ It was like this intense feeling. Like a crazy stirring up of the heart, jump out of your skin, not going away, can’t drown it out … straight up and stern ‘GO.’ I had just washed my makeup off and I stood just staring at myself in the mirror… God, why me? Why now? … There’s no way.
Literally, I was brought to my knees in the midst of prayer. That night, I prayed for God to break my heart for what breaks His.
This journey will be one of transformation, becoming increasingly more like Jesus –
working amongst those in complete poverty, hold orphans, bring hope to the hopeless, and pray for the sick.
The church doesn’t need walls. The church just needs those who will love. Those who will send and those who will go. I desire to go. To be the hands and feet, to have a voice, and to serve others.
Our team will be leaving in July, 2015 for 11 months to serve in India, Nepal, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Botswana, Swaziland, South Africa, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Haiti. World Racers are required to fundraise financial support totaling $16,266.00 that will cover all of my field expenses for the entire year. As I take this large step of faith in trusting the Lord, would you prayerfully consider partnering with me in any of the following ways? <3
