**Sorry for the delayed post** This blog was written at the end of Albania
My Albanian month was spent with 5 /6 of the teams on my squad. Since it was the majority of my squad, it was an “all-squad-month” pt.2, basically. The ministry was all manual labor, cleaning and preparing the camp before summer rolls around. This month was especially hard for me since we were not with the kids and seeing the fruit of our labor. Up until that point I had been use to making a difference directly with the people in our ministry we were working on. I learnt A LOT about how much work goes into preparing a camp. I built really great relationships with the cooking ladies, guard and maintenance women who work year-round. I was able to appreciate their hard work and bless them with a break just by being there and helping.
Our every day labor was made up of:
-Painting football-field-length fences (TWICE)
-Lime-washing every wall that has white on it on the camp grounds (including the ridiculously smelly pig pens)
-Chopping down thick brush with 7 ft. bamboo trees and thorny bushes (fun stuff)
-Setting up the obstacle course and rock-climbing walls
-Organizing rusty tools and over crowded storage units with dead rats/bats in them (our contact is a worse hoarder than I am),
-Weeding and painting GALOR
– Cleaning the rooms and kitchen duty
AND, the last 3 days of our ministry consisted of 3 ft. deep pig pens filled with backed up pig poop! Let’s just say, I’m still scrubbing the smell out of my clothes J
My heart broke for the workers, I saw how much energy they put into this place and how much joy we were bringing them just by being there. You know every time I saw them, I started shaking my butt and singing their names at the top of my lungs (all to see them buckle over, laughing). They saw all that we were able to accomplish in the short 4 weeks we were there and thanked us constantly. So much to learn from these beautiful people.
With all that said, Albania was a really special month for me… Enjoy the video!
Shout out to my brother, Anthony, for keeping me up with the great music. LOVE YOU!
Enjoy & Give Joy
P.S. Mom & Dad, this entire movie was shot from my iPhone
