This has been a question I have been asked frequently since I have begun telling people my plans to go on the World Race. This question is most commonly followed by, “What is your goal in going?” or “What do you hope to accomplish?”. But, these latter two questions are rooted in the first, the bigger question of, “Why go?”
It’s a great question. It’s a question I have spent a lot of time contemplating myself. The most direct and simple answer I can give is because God said so…..but there is so much within that answer alone! On a personal level I’m going because I had the Lord pull my heart to the World Race in a way I have never experienced before. And ever since everything has fallen into place in a way that only says, “yes!” to my going.
So often though what people are truly asking are why do people who follow Jesus feel this need to go to other countries and talk about it. There are so many directions you can come from to answer this. But, when you get right down to it and you take all that Jesus said, all that He did, all the miracles He performed, all the parables He taught, Jesus was showing us again and again that His heart is for all peoples of all nations of all backgrounds and that’s who our hearts should be for as well. For those who know Jesus and His deep soul changing love our desires should mirror His desires. We are called to be the salt of the earth. It isn’t about judgement or condemnation it’s about taking the love and grace that I receive from my God and sharing it with others, meeting people where they are at. Jesus showed us again and again how to love well by serving others.
Some are called to go far, some are called to go not so far, and some are never called to go but to support those who do. I go because I am so completely humbled by His love. I go because I hope that my heart will be moulded into a servant’s heart that learns to love as He loves. I go because He called and there are so many to be loved deeply. A love that fights against the status quo.
