When a new year comes around, we all say “what if” at what the year could bring. Sometimes we are excited about what’s ahead, but more often then not, our expectations are more in fear of what the year has in store. And looking at all the bleak predictions for 2012, I have a feeling most people are in the latter category.
We need to remember that the God of the Universe is on our side and want what’s best for us. He says that if we seek Him, we will get the desires of our hearts. Not only that, but He also says “ask, and you shall receive.”
I want to go into this year expecting big things from the Lord. My teammates and I spent an evening each coming up with some big “what ifs” that we desire this year. These aren’t hopeless pipe dreams; they are hopes and desires we know can come to fruition because of God. Some of them may sound ridiculous if you look at them logically. Too bad God isn’t one confined by human logic. I’m sick of my doubts getting in the way of God moving. I want to see Him do crazy things, but I need to ask for them.
I know I’m going to start praying expecting God to defy my logic and answer my “impossible” prayers.
Here are some of the what ifs that I came up with:
What If…
· We saw people physically healed miraculously
· I stop caring about what people thought of me
· I started loving people in spite of their faults
· God sends me somewhere I didn’t expect
· God wants me in the business world and not the “mission” field
· My dad becomes radically transformed for Christ
· I trusted people more
· I found my wife this year
· I stopped caring how others defined me
· I stopped living “in the box”
· I had joy in all circumstances
· I saw my family become more united under God
· Spiritual conversations were normal for my family
· I focused on today and only today
· I only look at how God has blessed me and not what I need
· We see crowds crying out for Jesus
· I become more vulnerable with my team
· I don’t let my “personality” get in the way of what God wants to do through me
· I saw everyone as a person with a story, hopes, fears, and desires
· I trusted God in everything…in ministry, family, team, life, circumstances
· I hear God speak more clearly than ever before
· I trust Him with ALL my plans
2012 is going to be a great year. Get ready, and don’t be afraid to pray those big, dangerous prayers. Don’t sell God short and put Him in a box. He created the universe; I’m know He can answer all these prayers.
What are some of the big “what ifs…” in your life?
