I think it was last summer when the idea of participating on the World Race first crossed my mind, but it didn’t really stick initially. At the time, I was trying to finally decide what I wanted to do for a career and had been interested in serving in the military. I went down to the Navy recruiting office and soon after swore into the United States Navy.

But while I was in the delayed entry program waiting to ship out for basic training, God began changing my heart and desires. I began questioning whether serving in the U.S. military was the best use of my time and skills. Don’t misunderstand me. I got nothing but the highest respect and gratitude for our military servicemen and women, but for me personally, I felt that it wouldn’t be the best choice.

I began really thinking about how short our time on earth is in perspective to eternity and I wanted to be a part of something that would have a lasting impact. I realized I would still be serving in the military, but not a physical military to wage war on terrorist and dictators. I wanted to be a part of the war on fear, apathy, and hopelessness. If I can be a part of sparking love and hope in even just one person’s life, who knows how God will use that person to spread the Good News to other people in that country.

“May the Lord, my rock be praised, who trains my hands for battle and my fingers for warfare.” Psalm 144:1

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12

And now abide faith, hope, and love these three; but the greatest of these is love. I Corinthians 13:13
