17 hours on a plane, 18 hours on a bus, and 30 minutes on a train later I was in Muizenberg, South Africa. This was were I was going to spend my next month. I had been given the task of being the contact person between our ministry host and the rest of the teams.
All together we had 4 teams in the same hostel, 23 people! That’s a lot of people to organize and communicate with. That has been one of the hardest things about this month. Being the middle man between everyone really makes you understand how important over communication is.
You have to be super clear with everything to make sure no one is in doubt of what is going on.
The other hard thing I realized this month is that everyone will not always be happy. This realization helped me come to another realization, that is that we all need to keep a super sympathetic mindset towards everyone. As 1 Peter 3:8-9 says…
“Finally, all of you, have UNITY of mind, SYMPATHY, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or insult with insult, but on the contrary, bless for to this YOU were called, that you may obtain blessing.”
You never know what goes on in the background of any project. Reality is that bad or good someone put a lot of effort and care into trying to make “it” a success. A harsh comment here or there could potentially be overheard could lead to devastating someone’s confidence.
To follow up with that comes the other side of the story which is that of the organizer or leader. Being in the role I have has helped me grow in my identity in Christ, becoming more confident in Him and who He has made me to be. I learned that I need to make every decision out of love, good intent, and with my eyes looking upward at Christ.
It has been such an amazing month growing in leadership and identity. I encourage you to continue to push deeper into Christ and what He has waiting for you. Once your confidence, hope, and strength come from Him no one else can hurt you. He keeps our hearts and guards them better than we ever could.
p.s. sorry blogs have been few this month internet is hard and I have been really busy. not sure what internet will be like in the next two countries. love you all!
