What happened at Training Camp.

Training camp was the slowest, but fastest week of my life I loved training camp; pretty much every aspect of it I loved.  It contained all of my favourite things like dancing, camping underneath the stars, meeting people, morning workouts, eating with my hands, bucket showers (er, maybe not), and a fantastic speaker.  I think I took as much notes during the sessions as I would during a whole semester of university!  Although I loved the “fun” parts of training camp like squad wars, dancing, playing what-are-the-odds, and just goofing off with new friends I also loved the difficult parts like certain team-formation exercises where nothing went right or during the speaker’s sessions where I was absolutely broken only to find dependency in Christ.  In every situation, whether it was easy or difficult, I found myself wanting more and more of it – wanting more and more of God, what He has in store for me, and discovering the person He made me to be.  I still don’t know where I found the energy for these pursuits – If you’re running towards God and you put your strength in Him He’ll make sure you’ll never tire.

Training camp is where I met 40 other like-minded individuals that I would be travelling the world with and spreading God’s kingdom.  I knew they would eventually become like family, but I never knew that we would grow this close in 1 week!  What a unique and powerful group God put together.  Oh yeah, and this group of warriors won squad wars.

At training camp we were put into teams.  We will be spending 11 months with our teams 24/7.  And I couldn’t be more proud to introduce you to the team I will be serving with (drumroll please):  team Boldly Present.  I cannot wait to do life with these individuals: (From L to R) Anna, Nick (Me), Bekah, Marin, Brady, BJ, Diane

For all the information and logistics that The World Race overwhelms us with in preparation for the next 11 months I still don’t feel prepared to launch this September.  And I don’t think that is a bad thing.  I realize that no matter how hard I try I will never be prepared for a journey of this magnitude.  Instead I must trust and lean on Him in every situation and be Boldly Present with Jesus by my side everywhere I go.

Some other things I learned at training camp:

–          L squad can dance! I mean dance!

–          I have an accent.  Apparently. Eh?

–          I am a naturalist (I connect with God most in His creation – I always kinda knew, but now it is confirmed)

–          I enjoy journaling and should have been doing it much earlier

–          That you are considered “suspicious” if you run in rural Georgia at 11:30PM

–          When I’m tired I can sleep anywhere

–          I don’t need a schedule to function

–          Bucket showers aren’t that bad. Seriously. I should’ve taken more.

And I know when I am launching now!  SEPTEMBER 5TH. Flight’s already booked!
