Hey Ya’ll,

The name’s Nick (unless you are family, then it’s usually Nicholas – or Snickers – great nickname, eh?)). The first thing you should know about me is that:

  • Since I would rather read bullet points and view pictures myself, I will try to implement those 2 things into my blogs (for my sake and yours!)
    • Blame it on my attention span

Facts about Nick:

  • Alberta boy, born and raised – I like Paul Brandt
  • From High River, AB, Canada – we made it on to BBC news last June!
  • I truly believe that hockey is the greatest sport
  • Peanut butter is the greatest condiment
  • Getting to the summit of a mountain is one of the greatest feelings
  • I have a passion, er, borderline idiotic passion for running (I signed up for a 125K ultramarathon this August)
  • I am graduating this year with a degree in biology – dental school is the plan after the race!
  • I am the undergraduate class of 2014 valedictorian
  • I love puns and cheezy Arnold Schwarzenegger one liners (spelled his name 1st try, nbd)
  • I have a gene mutation; an X-linked recessive genetic disorder known as Red-green colourblindness
  • I have been skydiving twice
  • The next bullet point is important
  • I believe that moving just the Wii remote in Just Dance 4 is cheating
  • My favourite song to sing along to is “Bleeding Love” – Leona Lewis (Just ask my friends)
  • I am the most clumsy person I know That comment not solely based on this event. (that statement not just based on this event)
  • I have an older sister whom I love (who/whom? I dunno…)
    • Even though we are very different
  • God has blessed me with the 2 greatest parents I could ask for
  • I love my friends, especially when they call me Rock Thomas (another one of my nicknames, don’ ask)
  • My favourite verse is Romans 8:38 – There’s no greater love than His
  • I am currently living in my comfort zone and I know it and I like it (which kinda (should!) scares me)
  • Through reading the Gospel, God is telling me to get out of it (my comfort zone) – to simply experience
  • So I signed up for the World Race September route 5
    • It still hasn’t sunk in

Here are some photos that I hope will show you ‘who I am’.

My happy place (hiking a mountain with a good buddy). I'm on the right. My happy place (climbing a mountain with a good friend).

Missed the net.

I think I missed the net…

My typical demeanor.

Camping Cheer

Camping in the Kootenay’s.  My second happy place. My reaction after semi-successfully strapping down the dirtbikes.

I hope by reading this you got a sense of who I am, my sense of humour, and why I am doing the World Race.

Let’s get to some more serious stuff.  I want to attempt to answer the question of “who am I?” That’s a tough one.

  • I am a child of the One True King (thanks Matthew West), but seriously, it is the truth!
    • Nothing can stand between God and I
  • I am God’s, set apart to do His good works
  • My identity is never in myself (I struggle with this – I am very independent. Independent from others and independent from, unfortunately sometimes, God)
  • My life is not about me! It’s about Him!
  • Through my relationship with Jesus Christ, all of the labels that the world has put on me; all the labels that I have put on myself fall off and feel as though they were never there in the first place.
    • Replaced by His label of “loved, secure, significant”

That is who I am. Love and free to fulfill His will.

P.S. I’ll try to post some pictures of me with other people (family, friends, etc) soon!
