Why am I going on this journey?

When mountaineer, George Mallory was asked, "Why do you want to climb Mount Everest?"  He famously retorted, "Because it's there."   At different times I feel the weight of my potential looming like Everest.   I hear the question, "Will you leave basecamp of your modern comfort and push upward to the summit of the unknown?"  Similarly, I believe we all have adventures waiting to take us to the unknown edges of our potential.  I see Kingdom Journeys in this light. It is not a Mount Everest, but it does hold the hallmarks of testing potential.

This isn't my first climb out of basecamp.  But it is a new mountain with its own challenges.  Most the time we live our lives below the tree line. Every now and again we need to make a push for the top of the mountain and see what we can learn along the way.   For me I feel the Lord calling me to venture into the unknown again.  To leave home, take my backpack, and journey.

To me it is mostly about a spiritual journey.  I want to be pushed into greater faith and create more space for God to move in my life in radical ways.  I have learned that God shows up when you create the space for him to.  Not to say that I don't see God daily here but there is something different when you are overseas with a few pounds of supplies running on plans that only God can fulfill.

My responsibilities stateside won't allow me to complete the whole journey.  But I will be a part of the launch team for a few months and may be able to drop in at different points throughout the year.

This journey is about creating space for God.  When have you created God space?

*Kingdom Journeys is a new initiative from Adventures in Missions. Its focus is on teaching emerging leaders how to build enterprises internationally.  I leave in May for my first stop in Spain.
