Just by reading the titles we can tell a lot about the DNA
make up of men. We have bent
towards action, adventure, pain, and risk.
How does all this transpose to church? Honestly most of it doesn’t. Well at least most of the churches we
find ourselves in.
That is why I love Man Hikes. I just did one this past week. Man Hikes are for men looking for a band of brothers that go
deep emotionally and spiritually while testing their strength against Mother
Nature. We summit mountains,
weather storms, tell jokes, risk vulnerability, pray
hard and shed tears.
Man Hikes allow men to be men. The men we were suppose to be. Not passive, soft spoken, mouse clicking,
lonely, nesters. But rather a band
of mighty warriors; bent on invading the hell in our lives and establishing
God’s Kingdom.
We get our strength from one another. Six of the guys on this one I met in
October 2009 on my first Man Hike.
It was only a 3 day trek in the New Hampshire Mountains but it turned
into a year and half bond through emails, gatherings, and
phone calls. These guys spoke into
my life, covered me in prayer, and encourage me to press into the hard areas.
The church needs men to be who they were created to be. I suggest Man Hikes as catalyst. Gather up a band of brothers in your
network and go out. Or join my
network. We plan to do several more
this year. Send me an email or
leave a comment if you would like to get on the next one. This round we had 13 guys 17 to 52 years old from Georgia,
Florida, North Carolina, Massachusetts, and Tennessee.
Thanks to all the men on the Georgia Hike: Seth, Mark,
Gleen, Stevo, Jeff, Tom, Jay, Troy, Paul, Dan, Scott and Jazz.
