A strong man, a good leader knows where he needs to be going individually and also where a group of people needs to go collectively. He knows where the Promised Land is. He has that vision, he has revelation of how to get there, and he knows how to go about shepherding people there.
We’re about “halfway” through this Race (parentheses because our Race doesn’t end at the 11 months—you feel me?). We’ve come a long way, and I rejoice in that. But I don’t want to look back at the end of this Race and think, “Man, the first half was pretty darn good, but what happened during the second half?” That’s not L Squad. We’re going places, no matter what kind of decisions it takes to get there. We can take hard decisions, and we can walk them out…individually and collectively.
What happened during the first half of the Race, and how did we get there? These are a few of my thoughts.
What happened?
-People walked into deeper identity.
-Hearing from God was a foreign concept to some people; now it’s a daily thing.
-People released past hurts and walked into greater freedom.
How did we get there?
-Raw vulnerability, extending grace, no condemnation.
-Fighting for one another: “it’s about you” for this season—some people had never known their own worth so affirming their place as a son or daughter.
-Close quarters and community (you can’t really avoid growth this way!)
Now, where do we need to go, and what are some ways we can get there?
Where do we need to go?
-Discovering more of the balance between freedom and responsibility (freedom is not an excuse to be mediocre).
-Realize more fully that while we have “worth”, it is NOT about you (we are co-laborers in this thing called life—more on that later).
-We seriously take on being disciples (we’re eating REAL food)
How do we get there?
-We don’t wait for someone to show us how to get there; we fight for ourselves and experiment to find solutions.
-Life-giving habits are ingrained: we are willing as individuals and a community to do the uncomfortable.
-Worship is not something that we do but who we are…in any situation. Make it a habit, a response.
I want to see 58 disciples at the end of 11 months—we’re not perfect, we don’t have it all figured out, we’re going to mess up upon re-entry. But we are decidedly, disciples.
