Yesterday was our last official day of ministry in Guatemala. Unbelievable. On Monday we head to Antigua for a few days of debrief, and then onto Honduras for our next month. Note to readers: our route has changed and while some of us are still going to El Salvador, a few teams are going to Honduras and our third month will be spent in Nicaragua!

There are so many fond memories from this past month…it’s hard to pick only a few. Although all our teams were based out of Santa Cruz del Quiche, my team—Aletheia—and Team Sweet Aroma traveled about an hour and half away for ministry. We spent most of our days in a little town outside of Chichicastenango called Patzibal, with a few independent missionaries named Sally and Erv.

Sally and I…fyi, I’m her adopted son (the Puerto Rican genes didn’t really come through).

When you travel the world, you meet some truly wonderful people…these are such people. With no official support from a church or mission agency, they just came and are living in community with the Guatemalan people. It’s beautiful. And I have been so encouraged by them.

While we did much, we left yesterday feeling more blessed by this couple. Blessed and then some. We moved whatever needed to be moved. We planted trees. We went to feedings programs.

We painted.

We bathed in waterfalls.

(bathing pic not included…anticipation pic – check…I was pretty excited to be by the river in the morning…)

We taught English and did VBS at a local school.

Being able to teach English without knowing Spanish = TGM x loving on kids…

We celebrated.

And it was good.

We also played loads of spike ball, discovered double covered frozen bananas with nuts, confirmed several times that Guatemalans are not genetically engineered for basketball, laughed at 5:30 in the morning while doing laundry by hand, and had a semi-rude awakening by a megaphone.

Finally, I had my first experience of love at first sight…

We lived a new dream each day.
