Day started like any other. Andrea my team mom/ team leader/ Michigander friend came into my room to wake me up. After a few moans I worked my way upstairs where she had breakfast waiting for me. An hour later she sent Jonathan and I off to our first day at work. Twenty minutes later we put on some gloves and scurried down a rope to the bottom of a 33 ft. well and began digging.

Hard hats were key as the pulley system knocked bucket coming down against bucket going up. At one point Jonathan said I had steam coming off of my head from the humidity down there. Wells are dark, damp, hot, and totally BA if you are dude. About an hour in they sent some Kool-Aid knock off down to us in the bucket. Oh yeah! (early Dane Cook reference).

This month will include: tree planting on the side of a hill to prevent future mudslides from claiming our buddy Roman’s home; some carpenter jazz to put up railing and door frames for future rooms to be used by other potential future teams; emptying and washing the walls of a water container below ground the size of a large bedroom; and hopefully more of that well digging stuff.

Please take time…maybe even right now…to pray for my friend Roman. For the sake of respecting Roman I’ll spare details, but he could use our prayers.
