The first step to seeing Jesus perform miracles is to recognize that we can’t do anything apart from the Lord, and that if we humble ourselves to His plan and His will and have a posture of love- then God can do anything. Contrary to the title of this blog- there is no formula to see healings (sorry). We try to make sense of what He is doing and what He wants to do. The problem is that our perspective is so finite compared to His, that we are not able to see His grand plan. All we can do is surrender to His will, and trust that He is loving and good.
A perfect example of this is in my blog “The First of Many Miracles”. We went to pray for Lucy for God to heal her, and He didn’t right away. God’s plan was so much bigger than that. We needed to surrender to His will and trust that He is good. God used that situation to heal not only her, but others too! If Lucy had not been in the hospital, we would have never met Gabriel- and the rest is history!
At the end of our time in Ecuador, I could feel the Lord preparing me for some big stuff! He put this anticipation inside of me to see miracles and to see Him heal people through me. I was so excited to tell people about what was about to happen, even though it hadn’t happened yet.
Our first week in Peru we were asked to help with one of the church plants in the middle of the mountains. We were out in the middle of nowhere, sleeping in our tents and cooking rice over a campfire- in the middle of the most rain that Peru has seen in 20 years. It was awesome!
On one of our first days here, I went for a walk with one of my teammates, Kayleigh. We were able to talk about what the Lord is doing in our lives and how we can encourage one another and build up our team when all of a sudden, we stopped in the middle of the road. We didn’t know why, but we stopped. We continued talking and enjoyed the incredible view of the Andes Mountains. After standing there and talking for a bit, a lady named Cuerva came out of her house and approached us. She was making sure that we were not lost, and began conversation with us. When she asked where we were living, we told her that we were living in the church, and talked a bit more about why “these gringos” were out in the middle of nowhere wandering aimlessly. Before parting ways, we asked her if there was any way that we could pray for her. She mentioned that she had a headache, and we began to pray. Immediately, Kayleigh and I were able to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit, and we knew that He was about to move.
After the prayer, we asked her how her headache was. She had mentioned it was a little better, but not perfect- so we prayed again.
It was a little better, but not perfect. So we prayed again. We were able to talk to her about how God is a god of abundance, and He would love to pour out His blessings of healing on her, as a way to show His love for her.
This time when we prayed, her headache was completely gone. Praise the Lord!
When praying for healing, it is important to remember a few things.
Its not about us. It seems simple, but its difficult. In no way, shape, or form do I have the ability to take away somebody’s pain. No matter what words I say, what prayer I pray, what spiritual gifts I have- I can’t do it. But, the Lord can, and God lives in me. If we take the focus off of ourselves (how we look, what we can do, how to pray, etc), and we put the focus on the Lord, and we allow God to move- we often see Him move.
We can never predict what God is going to do. In the Bible, God healed people through Jesus in many different ways. Jesus put mud on people’s eyes, people touched his clothes, He used His words, they got in the water, etc. We need to really surrender ourselves. If I go putting mud on people’s eyes- they aren’t gonna be healed. Just mad they have mud in their eyes. But, if the Spirit tells me to do it, you can bet there is going to be some healing!
Its all about love. The Bible talks so much about how it all comes down to love- and that could not be more true! God wants to show His love to people. He wants to do it through us, and if we can step out of the way and are sensitive to God’s plan and focus on bringing the love of God’s Kingdom- the Kingdom is going to come! The other half of that though is that people need to be accepting of the love that God wants to pour out on them. How can anyone give us a gift if we don’t accept it?
After we had prayed with Cuerva a few times and her headache had gone away, the Spirit had prepared her heart. She told us she couldn’t see well, she couldn’t hear out of an ear, and she had an overwhelming pain in her chest. After praying and letting the Lord pour His love through us, Cuerva was overwhelmed by the love that God had for her and HE TOOK ALL THE PAIN AWAY. How awesome is that!! This lady could now see, hear, was pain free, and most importantly- she better understood the love that God has for her!
I am so thankful and humbled to be a part of God’s big plan and I want to thank all of the people that have prayed and supported me financially. I still have more fundraising to go, and I know that God is going to provide in His timing. Please pray and consider joining with me financially and partnering to bring the Kingdom!
