Disturb Us, Lord – Sir Francis Drake
Disturb us, Lord, when
We are too pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.
Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.
Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wilder seas
Where storms will show Your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.
We ask you to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push back the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.
This we ask in the name of our Captain,
Who is Jesus Christ.
Oh how I want to live disturbed. I no longer want to settle. I no longer want to believe my wildest dreams are unreachable or, worse, impossible. I no longer want to live without reckless, ridiculous passion to bring Kingdom wherever I go, to whoever I’m with, in whatever I am called to do.
Every class I’ve attended at G42 has been incredibly life-giving and Holy Spirit-filled, and I kid you not when the I say the joy of the Lord is so evident I have Jesus-tingles (goosebumps) throughout every session. Time and time again I am reminded that I’m embraced in the arms of Unfailing Love and accepting our God-given identities sets us FREE; free from any other label or description; free from lies and pain thrust at us. Free from earthly ideals and the worldly definition of “success.” We can surrender any and all ideas of who we humanly think we “should” be and come ALIVE by resting in the truth that we belong to Jesus.
I’ve also been ignited by the immediacy of living out Christ. There is much darkness, much turmoil, much heartache and much hopelessness causing chaos in the world and THIS IS NOT OK. The children of God, His sons and daughters, are worth too much for the Church to not be doing all we can to bring Light, Love, Truth and Freedom. As one professor has said over and over, this is not a game. What is “this”? “This” is our call to storm the gates of HELL through the power of the Holy Spirit and be Christ’s conduits of Love. It is time to change the world. It is time to be His voice, His hands, His heart. “Disturb us, Lord”…
