Humbled.
v. To cause to be meek or modest in spirit.

I’m in a place of complete humility in the midst of this country, and we’ve only just begun.

The people of El Salvador are
the most beautiful and kind-hearted individuals.

Upon arrival with my team in La Libertad, we came face to face with our living arrangements.

And, lucky us, we actually have BEDS and a SHOWER.

(Clarification, we started out with one bed which turned into three while we were touring the church and slowly, but surely, enough beds have made their way into our home for the whole team, as well as a few of our hosts who are staying with us on site.)

Thankful doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel.

Our hosts are beyond kind to us.
They are patient with our broken Spanish,
have provided the most delicious food (and I do NOT joke about food),
have made sure we are comfortable at every level,
and are truly sharing what being a Christ-follower really is.

They are constantly teaching us what 'to serve' truly means.

The most frustrating thing?! ..
THEY WON’T LET US HELP THEM – AT ALL.

We ask,
then we beg,
and when that doesn’t work I know that a few of us really
want to succumb to throwing a fit like a four year old
but we just silently retreat back into the front room
with a feeling of thankful humility.

Like tonight, we did the church service
and when we arrived back home,
the men from the church were cleaning
and organizing our kitchen for us.
They concluded the evening with cooking us
an amazing meal for dinner.

I don’t understand.

It baffles my mind how those who have so little are so willing to give so much. Already, I just want to help them, serve them, clean for them, cook for them, ANYTHING.

But dang it, they are so stubborn.

Talk about honor.

You best believe, we will be leaving them an AMAZING gift upon departure from El Salvador.

My team, at our first home in El Salvador

P.S. We are staying in La Libertad with a beautiful church family. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep my team in your prayers (as well as all of the other teams on my squad!). El Salvador is the top country in the world for violence and our hosts recently moved our location due to safety concerns. We fully trust in God’s ability to keep us safe, but prayers always help! Also, please be praying for the people we will be ministering to here. We will be working with mostly children (yay!) doing ministry and just loving on them. Thank you!!! <3
