Last week we started a word application bible study on 1 Corinthians 13,
and last week’s word was patience. Patience
is something that I will definitely have to continue to work at but definitely
feel some major benefits from being focused on it last week.
This week the word is Kindness.…love
is KIND. 1 Corinthians 13:1b
The word kindness and kind (in the adjective form) show up
in the bible MANY times. So many times that it was hard to narrow down the
verses for this week.
Genesis 24:14
May it be that when I say to a young woman, ‘Please let down your jar that I
may have a drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too’-let
her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that
you have shown kindness to my master.” (Give to people when they
are in need)
Genesis 40:14
But when all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness;
mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison. (Help people out of hard
situations)
2 Samuel 9:7
“Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness
for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that
belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.” (give
someone back what is there’s, welcome them in your home)
Romans 2:4
Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and
patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to
repentance? (The kindness God shows you should change your life)
Proverbs 19:17
Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them
for what they have done.
Luke 6:35
But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to
get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of
the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. (Be kind
to those who you may not feel ‘deserve’ it)
2 Timothy 2:24
And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to
everyone, able to teach, not resentful. (Be kind to everyone, not just the
people you chose to be).
kind
1. of a good or benevolent nature or
disposition, as a person: a kind and loving person.
2. having, showing, or proceeding
from benevolence: kind words.
3. indulgent, considerate, or
helpful; humane (often followed by to ): to be kind to animals.
– adj 1. having a friendly or generous nature or attitude 2.
helpful to others or to another: a kind deed 3. considerate or humane 4.
cordial; courteous (esp in the phrase kind regards ) 5. pleasant;
agreeable; mild: a kind climate 6. informal beneficial or
not harmful: a detergent that is kind to the hands 7. archaic loving
Pretty easy right? Well it’s pretty easy when it comes to being kind to people you like and get a long with, or to a cute puppy…or what is most funny, to a stranger. Do you ever notice that you can sometimes show more kindness to a stranger than to your own family when you are in a bad mood, ha, strange right?
a) you don’t feel like it, and b) when you don’t feel like the person deserves
it. God says to show kindness to EVERYONE, to people who you may consider your
enemies, to people who may never ever pay you back or say thank you or ever
seem grateful. Those are the situations and the people that God is really going
to have to help me this week!
Praying for all of you as you show love and kindness this
week! I am excited to hear how it goes! 🙂
