A week so far of ironies.
This month is man-istry. The month where the women and the
men split up to do separate ministries. A lot of us got it in our heads that we
would be having a girly month. I went out and bought my first dress on the
race, my first cute shirt, a new thing of eye shadow, I was ready to rock the
girly look. The reason was because usually when in Thailand you go out and do
bar ministry because that is what Thailand is full of, prostitution. However,
we quickly discovered this would be a month of ironies.
Not to belittle what our men are doing, but it’s funny
because their ministry from what I have read and heard is more or less
gardening. On the other hand, our team is where a different Squad, O-Squad,
spent their man-istry month. Instead of high heels and makeup, we wear our work
shirts and tennis shoes.
For our ‘girly’ month, we thought we would feel like
princesses. Here’s the funny thing. You know the moats around the castle,
a.k.a. the trenches? We just so happen to be digging one of those around the
orphanage we are living at. Instead of being the princess, it’s like we are
protecting her. Or maybe not just the princess, because I did climb up on a
flimsy roof to patch holes for the chicken coop on Friday. So far we have laid gravel for a parking lot, counted acres of fruit trees for Remember Nhu, dug ditches, mixed and laid concrete, patched a roof, and loved on the girls at the orphanage.
We have decided, do to that fact that a shovel is almost
always in our hands either digging or mixing cement, that the Snow White Song ‘High
Ho’ just fits to perfectly for our theme song this month.
Bethsaida, the talent that she is, put together a video of
footage from one day of work. It gives you a little taste of what we are doing
this month so far.
The amazing thing though, like I mentioned before, I do
believe we are working with God’s princesses. The orphanage we are doing
construction at all month is an orphanage where young girls have been taken out
of very unstable or no home at all and brought here. It is an amazing method at
preventing girls from ever entering the sex trade (more on this to come in a
later blog). So if this month I am building up the home for these little princesses,
every second was worth it.
Enjoy:
