Yesterday was a great day! We wanted to see some of San Juan
so we started walking around the town. Within five minutes a man came running
up to us asking us to come play baseball. There was a large group of us so we
went for it. It was so great!! There were about 200 kids all in uniforms
practicing and some playing a game. The
coach was really into the “Americanos” practicing with his kids. He kept
handing us gloves to go and field, take grounders, pop ups, be his catcher when
he hit it out to the kids, hit the ball..I mean it was like a real practice! Ha.
We also danced with them, and tumbled! Check out Woody’s and Craig’s blogs for videos! For any of you that know me…I LOVED IT!! I was soooo in my element. That said,
shout out to the Dirts!!! Someone send me an email with a play by play of last
game…not even sure if we won or not!
Right now we are sitting outside a hotel about to watch the
final World cup match. This morning a group of us went to a local church…yeah,
I couldn’t understand most of the sermon since it was all in Spanish, but it
was really cool hanging out with them.
We are staying in a really really really really really nice
place…however, it is rather small for the 50 of us staying there. Four
bathrooms, a small kitchen…but we are making it work. We are in the richest
part of town, but the water and electricity still goes out whenever it feels
like it…not as often as it did in Santa Domingo though thankfully. There are
not enough beds and not enough room for tents, so I opted to sleep in the
hammock again. It is nice to get the cool breeze so I don’t mind. Plus I am
hooked up on the balcony (don’t be scared mom, there are bars covering the
whole thing so there is nowhere for me to fall), so there is a beautiful view through
the trees and into the neighbors yards…slightly creepy I know, but it allows me
to see them and pray specifically for them. There is a little old man that is
in the house directly behind our compound. He shakes a lot, and just seems so
uncomfortable so I’ve been praying for him when I wake up in the morning and
see him sitting in his chair looking out at his lawn.
My Spanish is getting better every day. It is my goal to
become a lot more fluent by the end of this trip. We have a bunch of neighbor
kids just a few houses down who love speaking English and are such a joy, so
mutual language lessons are a must this month.
