Remember in high school, when you'd do anything to get out of school- schedule doctor's appointments, fake sick, even offer to donate blood?
Or college, when skipping class was not only easy, it was just the way of the world?
Or work, when you try to drag out your two weeks as looonnngggg as possible?
Life as a missionary sometimes feels like this.

one of the bars
It's almost month 9. We're tired. We've been at this since January- do you even remember January? I sure don't. We didn't get a spring break or a summer vacation or even a long weekend. Our travel days really just mean long, sleepless nights on planes or buses, debriefs mean 40 people crammed into a hostel, bumping into one another as we all try to keep our food budgets to the $1/meal. Days off at ministry sites are a group of people figuring out how to get out, but since we're never allowed to be alone, it's always hectic.
I don't say this to complain, I'm just painting a picture:
Life on the Race is crazy, with little to no time off. We've been at this a long time, and we still have 85 days to go (what, me, count down?).
Days off would be much appreciated.

playing jenga at the bars
This past month, a huge part of our ministry has been prayer. Imagine a room full of people just praying.
And what was the number one prayer?
"God, please let it rain so hard that no men can come out to the bars to hit on or feel up or buy these Thai women we've gotten to know and grown to love."
Have you ever doubted that the Lord answers prayers?

Emily, Lauren and Vinny with a new friend
Over the last few days we've been locked in the house because it's been monsooning. The bars are shut down because they flooded (there was even a man who died because of it).
With these last few days here being forced to rest, we were able to sleep in, have a movie night, and just relax. There may even have been some impromtu singing and dancing, but that's the content of a later blog. 😉
The only real downside is that we never got a chance to say goodbye to our girls, and now we're leaving Thailand forever! It's definitely a reminder to make sure that you take the most of every moment of ministry, because you never know which one will be your last.
And- watch your prayers. Because God answers them. Be prepared when you're seeking His kingdom come to see it, on earth as it is in heaven.
