The past five days our squad has been at debrief on Moterrico Beach. As we made the three hour trip back to Antigua yesterday, there was just one phrase running on repeat in my head, “We are going home!!” strange to catch myself calling Antigua home and yet it wasn’t. A couple blogs back I shared a prayer that was dear to my heart, asking the Lord to make my home wherever He is. As I laid in my bunk, I realized all the ways He is making Antigua home through His presence:
- The first night home from debrief, I tossed and turned in my bunk all night.
- This morning I woke up to a rather large load of laundry I needed to hand wash.
- As I headed into town for groceries, my girls caught a glimpse of me and they ran to leap into my arms. I have only been gone 5 days yet the excitement in their sweet, tiny voices, as they called my name, made it seem like it had been an eternity.
- Tonight as a team, we humbled ourselves before each other and God as we washed each other’s feet.
Each of these moments is very different, yet each one is so heavily laced with God’s presence. I can’t help but fall in humility and sing HIS praises. Praises because I have a bed when I could be on the ground in my tent. Praises because I’m blessed with enough clothing that it actually took me 45 minutes to wash them all. Praises because as my girls ran into my arms I was reminded of the Father’s pure love for me. Praises because as the foot washing took place, it was a testament of God working a miracle of healing and unifying my team.
Home looks different than it ever has before. It is not as convenient or comfortable. Nor does it have Starbucks or Chickfila. Most days aren’t according to my agenda, but as all these things are stripped away I find that my days are filled more with His presence than ever before.
