I have been in Africa now for almost two weeks and I am sorry that I haven’t posted sooner.  This is my first time to this continent and somewhere that I have wanted to come see for a long time.  When I was a teenager I wanted to come to Africa but my Dad thought it would be too dangerous and I was too young.  Now that I am here I think that a lot of my misconceptions of Africa and possibly my Dads were from TV or movies.  Isn’t it sad that we only see the bad on the news each night?  What we hear about Africa is about the crime or the people that are starving.  We don’t hear about all the good and positive things that are happening in Africa.
As we walk around the poorest neighbourhood in Kitale yes we see poverty but the people are friendly and are hopeful.  They ask us to pray for them that they will find jobs or health will improve. They welcome us into their humble homes and share their stories with us.  What I have realized is that people are the same wherever you go; they are looking for love and hope for a better future for their children.  They want to be able to provide for their families.
This month we are living in a small home with a family of seven a short distance from the town of Kitale in Kenya.  We have two teams here and one squad leader so now the home that holds seven comfortably is holding twenty.  They have welcomed us into their family and treat us as if we have always been here.  I feel very blessed to be here and to have this opportunity.  Africa is a place of beauty and I see God’s handiwork in the people and the landscape.
