As I step into this new season of leadership, God has put it on my heart to be an example to the men and women on my squad of what a Man of God looks like. That is a somewhat scary order, so I spent this morning praying and seeking His guidance, because, well, this is not something I want to get wrong. Our culture is full of poor examples what God created men to be. Some men are abusive. Some men are apathetic. Some men are simple absent. The family structure and the church have suffered because of this. I believe these circumstances can and will change if we are intentional about setting healthy examples for this generation and the generations to come of what God calls men to be…So, I simply asked Him this question…

…”What Is A Man Of God?”

A man of God is a warrior. He fights for what is True. He fights for those he loves. He fights for the oppressed and broken. He recognizes his authority as a son of the Almighty King and he does not back down from the attacks and schemes of the enemy.

A man of God honors his commitments. His “yes” means “yes” and his “no” means “no”. He is a man of his word.

A man of God  has compassion. He puts the needs of those around him ahead of his own needs.

A man of God passionately worships his Creator. Worship is a priority in his life, not just something he does on Sunday morning.

A man of God leads by example. He never asks of others what he is not willing to do himself. He empowers those he leads instead of controlling them.

A man of God loves women. He respects women. He empowers women. He pursues women. He protects women. He never, ever, uses women, abuses women, or degrades women.

A man of God actively seeks to follow Jesus in his whole life. He does not compartmentalize his social life and his spiritual life.

A man of God uses his words to bring life and intentionally fights the urge to speak death.

A man of God sees the beauty of creation and praises his Creator for it.

A man of God is willing to be vulnerable. He brings his weaknesses into the light and trusts that God’s strength is all he needs. He knows that his own vulnerability will give others the strength to be vulnerable themselves.

A man of God walks in the power of the Holy Spirit. He allows God to use him to bring healing, reconciliation, prophesy, and love into this broken world.

A man of God listens for God to speak when he prays. He knows that prayer is a conversation not a monologue. He knows his Father’s voice and he longs to hear it.

A man of God walks in freedom. He recognizes that the enemy will use his past mistakes against him, but takes Jesus at His word when He said “It is finished”. He fights to lead others to walk in freedom in their own lives.

A man of God doesn’t back down from his convictions. His affirmation comes from God not from the opinions of others.

A man of God dies to himself daily. He sacrifices his own comfort zone to see the gospel shared in the world around him.

A man of God seeks adventure. Jesus promised him an abundant life and he will live out that abundant life in a way that attracts people to Jesus. He will no longer settle for the “boring Christian” stereotype the world says he should be.

A man of God values purity. He strives to live a life that honors the commandments of his Savior. He strives not to let his actions cause others to stumble.

A man of God loves Jesus and therefore loves the world. He is willing to die in the service of his King.

A man of God loves.
