My mom always says, “Man makes his plans; God laughs.” Today I am finding out just how true that is! Last night my team-mate Amanda, was robbed and lots of her things were taken including her passport. The embassy in Guatemala City opens on Monday so we have decided to stay in Antigua for the next few days instead of going up to the lake.
This morning our team prayed then set out to take care of things. We didn’t have a place to stay or any ministry plans. Last year, when Amanda lived here she attended worship services at a Christian coffee shop called Caminos so we went to see if they knew of any good, cheep lodging options. The pastor, who is from the U.S., listened to our predicament then asked if we could wait for a minute while he made a few phone calls.
A few seconds later he emerged out of the back room and offered us two of the rooms in his house and space in his back yard to pitch our tents! We asked the pastor if there was any way we could help out with the church or coffee shop. He immediately wanted to know if we could paint because they had a few rooms that needed work. Our team laughed pretty hard at that one, after the last few weeks we are expert painters! How cool is that, we had been praying for a free place to stay, we just thought that the free place would be on the lake, not in Antigua.

After getting our lodging plans taken care Emily and I decided to see if we could volunteer at a local hospital for the next few days. The hospital takes in severely mentally and physically handicapped people whose families can’t or won’t take care of them. It looks like we will be working in the baby ward starting tomorrow. I’m so excited about this opportunity!
Eventually we hope to go to the lake, but for now it’s one day at a time. I’m just so thankful that we are all safe and God is providing for us. Thanks for your prayers and comments after the last blog, they were super encouraging.
