I’ve been struggling to blog this week so much so we are already in week two. How can I possibly describe in words all the great things we’ve done and the wonderful people we’ve encountered. To start off I can describe where we are. This month my team is living in a tiny pueblo called Padre Las Casas. It is in the mountains an hour and a half away from San Juan.
We were shocked to discover that are living conditions for the month is a 3 bedroom apartment with a bathroom and a kitchen. Yes, I am so thankful but it is not without its faults. On our first day alone, the toilet flooded four separate times, the electricity goes on and off whenever it pleases and we only have running water an hour tops each day. Despite these things I am so thankful that my team is able to still find joy, that we are able to endure these conditions and still know that Our God is good.
This month our ministry contact is a pastor named Meco. He is a true God send that is so eager to help and serve us whenever we need him. He is a pastor at the local church called la fuente paz (the fountain of peace) I have had the privilege of hearing him preach twice and it is incredibly moving. He preaches with so much conviction that he almost always has tears in his eyes. Even though there is a clear language barrier, I still feel the Lords presence.
What we are doing as our primary ministry is working with Compassion International. Half of our team is teaching art and half of our team is teaching English. Since I speak the most Spanish, I am teaching English. At times I feel like a hot mess trying to translate but overall the kids seem to be very receptive and are picking up the language really fast.
I am so excited to see what is to come in the following weeks and to see how God will use us in this country.
