Training Camp

The past ten days of my life have been some of the most challenging I have ever had.  Adventures in Missions (AIM) does not play around when it comes to training their future missionaries and this was no exception.  From the small food portions to sleeping on the dirt during a thunderstorm all huddled up with 54 of your new family members, AIM worked on preparing us for the journey we will all embark on for the next 11 months of our lives all for one purpose…to make Jesus known.

My faith has been tested tremendously during this time.  Not only have I asked myself over and over why I am choosing to leave behind family, friends, comfort, and safety, but I have debated whether I am able to do what God is asking me.  I am only 22 years old, I am a privileged American girl who has experienced very little compared to the vast masses of people we will be ministering to, I am selfish, I am weak, I can be mean, I have idols, I sin, and the list can go on and on and on forever.  I will never be up to par.  But every single one of these excuses starts out with “I”.  Training Camp has taught me just how often I put our Father in a bubble and how much I focus on myself instead of Him.  Much of what I learned is focused on God’s character when I am not enough.  Here is a list of things I learned about Jesus during training camp:

  1. He is ageless (Genesis 21:33).
  2. He has suffered (Acts 3:18).
  3. He is big (Isaiah 55:8-9).
  4. He is strong (Philippians 4:13).
  5. He is selfless (Matthew 20:26-28).
  6. He is light (1 John 1:5).
  7. He is good (Psalms 100:5).
  8. He never sins (1 Peter 2:22).
  9. He is infinite (Psalms 48:14).
  10. He is all powerful (1 Corinthians 4:20).
  11. He is loving (1 John 4:15).
  12. He is in control (Proverbs 19:21).
  13. He is righteous (Psalms 50:6).
  14. He is faithful (1 Corinthians 1:9).
  15. He is dependable (Deuteronomy 4:23).

If there is one thing I have learned this week, it is that I am not able to do this…but God showed me just how capable HE is to do this through me.  With Him at our side there is nothing we cannot accomplish because when we fail, He stands strong.

On Friday we received our teams to begin our ministry.  My teammates are Anna Carter (annacarter.theworldrace.org), Anna Norman (annanorman.theworldrace.org), Corinne Hurlbert (corinnehurlbert.theworldrace.org), Emma Gronseth (emmagronseth.theworldrace.org), McKenzie Riley (mckenzieriley.theworldrace.org) and Whitney Berryman (whitneyberryman.theworldrace.org).  We are called Intrepid.

Intrepid

            Adj. fearless; adventurous

We are fearless because our God is almighty.  He has called us all to go (Matthew 28:19) and go we shall.  We will stand as fearless daughters of our king, ready to do as God has asked so others can have a chance to know His unending love.

Team Intrepid, R Squad, July 2015

Please join in praying for Intrepid as we spend these last few week saying goodbye to family and friends, gathering the rest of our equipment, raising financial support, and preparing our hearts for God to move.
