You
Know You’re in AFRICA When…
-toilet
paper becomes a staple item in your purse anytime you go anyplace at all

proud of yourself for mastering how to use the squatty potty
yell “MZUNGU! MZUNGU!” (white person) every time you walk by them- you hear
this about 20 times a day
!
washing your clothes becomes a normal activity and you wear clothes for days at
a time so you have less to wash!

are expected to have a sermon or something to say prepared at all times
are over 20 people crammed in a 10 person van
-you
take the hottest shower of the race one night and the coldest shower (or bucket
shower) the next night

plays ALL night long right outside your window
-you can attract a crowd just by
walking or sitting
go into a restaurant and there aren’t any tables open, so you sit in all the
empty chairs, meaning you sit at tables with people you don’t know…ha!
-you
get excited when you open a box of crackers and they aren’t stale

are 12 people in a taxi that would normally sit 5
is a dance party!
pee on your feet at least once a day (due to the squatty potty of course)
-mowers are non-existent and cattle are
used to mow the grass

-you
see migrations of goats everywhere
-the yellow line in the middle of the
road doesn’t mean anything…at all
literally have to jump out of the way from getting hit by motorcycles, bikes,
maybe even cars

-all
soda is in glass bottles
run up to you and try to rub the “white” off your skin

are literally EVERYWHERE around you…at all times
-revivalstake place often
town and travel to a town over an hour away and still run into people that
recognize you from the market
go to the doctor and get diagnosed with “flarengitus”, then a bladder
infection, and then figure out it’s ecoli!

come running with coke bottles to the side of the road when you pass by..and
you realize that the bottles are filled with gasoline and they use the bottles
to measure it out..and then they fill you up!

starts to look tired after awhile..ha
taxi breaks down almost every time you ride in it (for various reasons)
rides also consist of getting out and walking up all the hills because the car
won’t make it up with all 7 people

are reminded of the Lord’s promises over and over again
-4 year olds take their baby siblings
out on their backs while they play…and seeing a baby on anyone’s back is normal
-the
women carry anything and everything on their heads
can see for miles and miles

Thank
you so much for all of the prayers for my team during our stay in Africa! They
were appreciated more than you know. We are currently in Ukraine. There will be
a blog about that coming soon! 🙂
