RANDOM FACTS ABOUT NEW ZEALAND!

 

o      Everyone
says “sweet as” after things you say, and it means “really cool”- but sounds
very odd at   first..ha

o      The
native people here are known as Maori people. They have some very interesting
traditions that they have let us in on.–I have some videos to come 🙂

o      Their
ketchup tastes more like thick tomato soup.

o      Everyone
walks around barefoot everywhere! I went to the grocery store and looked down,
and there were so many people not wearing shoes!

o      Sandals
are known as “Jandals”.

o      The
toilets here have 2 buttons on the back to flush with. One button has a circle
half full, which means there isn’t as much water or pressure.  The other button has a circle
completely full if you need more water and pressure to flush…pretty
interesting!

o      The
sun is super intense here- if you don’t have sunscreen on you will burn within
10 minutes due to a hole in the ozone layer. However, you barely ever feel hot
because there is always a breeze.

o      Chocolate
sprinkles are known as “chocolate hail” or “hundred and thousands”.

o      The
accent of the people here is really cool- it sounds like a mix between an
English accent and Australian one.

o      Everything
is so expensive here! For example, dental floss is like $6 and sunscreen is
like $15 or $20!

o      Bathing
suits are called “togas”.


o      There
are sheep everywhere!

o      Their
French press for coffee is called a “coffee plunger”.

o      The
people here say “eh”, similar to Canadians.

o      The
residents here are known as “Kiwis”, which also happens to be the name of a
small brown bird here (I’ve yet to see the bird, probably because it’s
nocturnal).

o      They
drive on the opposite side of the road here and drivers sit on the opposite
side in the car. So, when we first came out of the airport and saw cars driving
by it looked like no one was driving them!

o      Sodas
are called “fizzy drinks”.

o      Instead
of intersections here they have roundabouts that go 3 different directions.

o      Our
pennies look like their 10 cents and they have $1 and $2 coins instead of
bills AND they don’t have pennies so they round down when you buy anything!

o      To
turn light switches on, you push them down, not up and all their outlets have
an on/off switch next to each one.

o      The
grass is greener here, the sky is bluer here and everything is more vivid and
vibrant!
